Make the business case
While there are many important reasons to get involved in climate action, the VCSE sector has many competing priorities. Unless it has a clear benefit to your operations, it can be difficult to make the case for the up-front investment of time and resources environmental sustainability may require.
Spending time to create a ‘business case’ for why you want to become environmentally sustainable is hugely important to not only get started in this area, but continue to act sustainably over the long term when challenges to capacity and resources risk deprioritising climate action.

Appoint an environmental trustee
If you have a board of trustees, it’s important to have a trustee who ensures environmental action stays a priority for your organisation. This doesn’t need to be someone with environmental experience, but appointing an environmental expert could bring additional knowledge and a fresh source of ideas on how to become sustainable.
